1st Lt. Zachary McDermott, 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron pilot, completes the pre-flight checklist prior to taking off into Hurricane Idalia. The Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunters, continued to collect data during a mission today into Hurricane Idalia as it made landfall in Florida. The Hurricane Hunters gather weather data and send that information back to the National Hurricane Center to be used for improvement in updating the forecast models of storm tracks.
