U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Mario Cornejo, an avionics technician with the 146th Maintenance Squadron, California Air National Guard, installs a countermeasure dispenser tester to perform a stray voltage test on the ALE-47 Chaff and Flare System of a C-130J Hercules aircraft, while attending the Weapon Task Qualification Manager/Munitions Training Course, at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, Texas, August 7, 2024. The procedure checks for stray voltage in aircraft to protect maintainers and pilots from accidental flares ignition. The WTQM course, taught by the Advanced Airlift Tactics Training Center, based in St. Joseph, Missouri, includes training in the uploading of expendables in the ALE-47 Chaff and Flare Systems, as well as explosive safety, expendables operations, and practical flare loading operations, utilizing training munitions items on mobility aircraft. This course was a proof-of-concept for the mobile training team model, whereby instructors traveling to regional locations would create a financial and logistical incentive for area units interested in sending their munition specialists to attend.
