The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Wetlands Team uses soil health, a select number of plants and trees for their ecological rapid assessments. The researchers also closely observe the presence of wildlife. Amphibians are among the most threatened species in the world. The health of these creatures is also an indication of the health of the ecosystem. A Green frog sits on a root in Newburgh, New York. (U.S. Army Photo by Brigida I. Sanchez)
