Parts of a U.S. Marine Corps World War II era Sherman tank are displayed during a reunion event hosted by the National Museum of the Marine Corps at the Museum Support Facility in Dumfries, Virginia, Aug. 15, 2025. U.S. Marine Corps veteran Cpl. Leighton Willhite, who served in the Battle of Iwo Jima, was reunited with the tank he operated before it undergoes restoration and is placed on display at the museum. Willhite was just 19 when he drove Lucky ashore at Red Beach 2 with the 5th Tank Battalion during the assault in 1945. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Anthony C. Ramsey Jr.)
