Republic of Korea and U.S. amphibious assault vehicles and ships gather in preparation for an amphibious landing on Hwajin-ri and Doksuk-ri beaches April 26 in Republic of Korea waters during Ssang Yong 13. The amphibious landing was the culminating event of the annual exercise Ssang Yong, which is designed to strengthen the combat readiness and interoperability of the U.S. and ROK forces. ROK Marines participating in the exercise are from 1st ROK Marine Division, while participating U.S. Marines are from 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force and 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve.
