PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (Aug. 1, 2025) Rear Adm. Amy Bauernschmidt, center, commander of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 1, officiates as Capt. Thomas P. Abbott, requests to assume the duties and responsibilities as Commodore, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 1, during a change of command ceremony at the USS Arizona Memorial, Aug. 1, 2025. The DESRON 1 staff, embarked aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), is assigned to CSG-1 and holds operational control of six Arleigh Burke-class destroyers: USS Hopper (DDG 70), USS Chafee (DDG 90), USS Sterett (DDG 104) and USS Willliam P.
