Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) service members observe an F-35B Lightning II aircraft assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 242, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, take off during a visit as a part of Talisman Sabre 25 aboard the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), in the Coral Sea, July 23, 2025. The visit was conducted to showcase operations aboard America and to strengthen the partnership of JGSDF and the 31st MEU. Talisman Sabre is the largest bilateral military exercise between Australia and the United States advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific by strengthening relationships and interoperability among key allies and partners, while enhancing our collective capabilities to respond to a wide array of potential security concerns.
