Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Maj. Gen. Yoshichika Ito, the commanding general of the 1st Helicopter Brigade, is greeted by U.S. Marines with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and Sailors assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), during a visit as a part of Talisman Sabre 25, aboard America (LHA 6), in the Coral Sea, July 23, 2025. The visit was conducted to showcase operations aboard America and to strengthen the partnership of JGSDF and the 31st MEU. Talisman Sabre is the largest bilateral military exercise between Australia and the United States advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific by strengthening relationships and interoperability among key allies and partners, while enhancing our collective capabilities to respond to a wide array of potential security concerns.
