The NPS Ocean Sensing Buoy project provides a platform to support collaborative research with NPS focused on studies of Monterey Bay throughout the scientific community. At Monterey Bay Boatworks prior to the buoy’s deployment, NPS president retired U.S. Navy Vice Adm. Ann Rondeau, provost and former NASA astronaut Jim Newman, physics chair Kevin Smith, and professor emeritus Tim Stanton met with NPS staff, as well as professor Barbara Block based at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability’s Hopkins Marine Station to discuss its instruments and operation.
