Shaelynn Kaufman, a research geologist with the Wetlands Team at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), stands over Broad-leaved panic grass ( Dichanthelium latifolium) growing inside mesocosm tubs. A mesocosm is a tool used by scientists to replicate a natural system under controlled conditions. This tool enables the team to develop the necessary technology to reduce phosphorus and optimize the management of watershed wetlands. The ERDC's Wetlands Team focuses on leveraging natural processes to create sustainable and impactful solutions for the warfighter and the nation. (U.S. Army Photo by Brigida I. Sanchez)
