Vice Adm. Johnny Wolfe Jr., director of U.S. Navy’s Strategic Systems Programs, personally traveled to central Florida to participate in several celebratory events on July 1 in honor of the 70th anniversary of SSP. The first of four events was hosted by the Naval Ordnance Test Unit the MWR Greenhouse on Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida. More than 100 employees from the various fleet ballistic missile program contract partners attended the celebration event at the Greenhouse. During this event, Wolfe presented Gary Williams with a 50-year Fleet Ballistic Service Pin for his service to the program. Toward the end of the celebration ceremony the longest serving employee present, Gil Buckman from Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, and newest employee present, Kerry Deamer from Northrup Grumman, were asked to come forward to help Wolfe the SSP birthday cake. Throughout the celebration, Wolfe could not express enough how much each employee meant to the overall mission. He said, "You are the reason why the U.S. succeeds at providing a reliable seaborne strategic deterrent."
