    USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7)

NORFOLK (June 13, 2025) Capt. Richard Haley (center), commanding officer of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7), salutes Capt. Chris Farricker, commodore of Amphibious Squadron 8, after assuming command during Iwo Jima’s Change of Command ceremony where Haley relieves Capt. Brian Hamel as commanding officer of Iwo Jima. The change of command ceremony is a traditional Navy ceremony where the ship's crew witness the transfer of power from the commanding officer to the prospective commanding officer. Iwo Jima is the flagship of the Iwo Jima Amphibious Readiness Group, a force uniquely positioned to deter aggression, project power through presence abroad, and execute contingency missions with its integrated Marine Corps team in support of U.S. strategic interest.
