U.S. Army Staff Sgt. William D. Owens, a paratrooper with the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division in Normandy, France shortly after the battle at La Fière on D-Day, June 6,1944. Owens was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross during a June 5, 2025, ceremony in Sainte-Mère-Église, France, for his actions during the D-Day landings at La Fière.
