FLEET ACTIVITIES YOKOSUKA, Japan (May 29, 2025) - Defense Logisitics Agency (DLA) contracted personnel join Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Far East personnel remove the base of Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka's (CFAY) Command Digital Marquee Building 3020 May 29, 2025. The digital marquee's base was originally installed in 2001 and took nearly three hours to remove. The crew used everything including lubricants, grinders, power saws, wrenches with multiple people pulling, and a crane to finally break it free from 16 stubborn bolts. The marquee was originally procured and installed using funds awarded by the Commander-in-Chiefs 2001 Installation of Excellence award. CFAY won the award in 2001, it's third in a four year stretch after going back-to-back in 1998 and 1999. A new marquee installation is scheduled to begin in late summer 2025.
