Dr. Eugene C. Jacobs was issued these POW Identification Tags while a Prisoner of War of the Japanese. In 1941, at war's outbreak, he was a Captain commanding the Station Hospital, Camp John Hay, Baguio, Philippines. Jacobs was imprisoned initially in the Philippines where he served as the Chief, Medical Service, Japanese Prisoner of War (POW) Camp No.1 Hospital, Cabanatuan from 1942 to1944. Major Jacobs was Prisoner # 1897 and Doctor # 21. The Japanese transferred thousands of POWs from the Philippines to Japan on "hell ships" due to the approaching American forces in 1944. Jacobs was transferred to Moji and Fukuoka, Japan and Mukden, Manchuria in 1945. He was finally being liberated by the Russians in Kunming, China in 1945. Fort Sam Houston, Texas, 16JUL2022.
