From 8-16 January, U.S. Embassy N’Djamena’s Department of Defense HIV/AIDS Prevention Program (DHAPP) Manager traveled to Mondou, Komé, Doba and Sarh alongside AFRICOM’s Office of Security Cooperation. The goal of Chad’s DHAPP program is to lessen the effects of HIV/AIDS throughout the Chadian military by conducting a comprehensive SIMS and assist the Implementing Partner in providing a quality continuous medical education to the military staff in select sites. DHAPP has funded 21 HIV/AIDS treatment centers located on military bases throughout Chad. Chad’s DHAPP office was able to conduct in-depth evaluations and recommendations for the currently supported clinics throughout southern Chad. The DHAPP team also donated medical supplies to assist with HIV prevention. DHAPP remains an integral partner for US Embassy N’Djamena and the Chadian military as HIV/AIDS continues to be a problem throughout the security forces.

U.S. Africa Command, one of 11 U.S. Department of Defense combatant commands, is responsible for employing broad-reaching diplomacy, development, and defense approaches to foster partnership efforts to promote regional security, stability, and prosperity. U.S. AFRICOM’s area of responsibility consists of 53 African states, more than 800 ethnic groups, over 1,000 languages, vast natural resources, a land mass that is three-and-a-half times the size of the U.S., and nearly 19,000 miles of coastland. Working alongside its partners, AFRICOM counters transnational threats and malign actors, strengthens security forces and responds to crises.
