U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Brendan Dziama, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency detachment commander, sifts through soil on a wet screen during a visit to a recovery site in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Nov. 15, 2024. Dziama was briefed on recovery operations and received a first-hand look at the daily activities necessary to complete an active excavation. The recovery mission was part of an on-going effort to locate, recover and identify missing service members. There are approximately 1,600 personnel missing from the Vietnam War.
