Gold Star Mothers Sue Wieczorek (left) and Jean Harris read the names of the Fallen on the Gold Star Family float after the Chicago Memorial Day parade on May 25 in downtown Chicago. Those names included Wieczorek's son, Sgt. Robert Weinger, and Harris' step-son Sgt. Joshua Harris. Both Sgt. Weinger and Sgt. Harris were killed in action while serving with the Illinois Army National Guard's 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team. Sgt. Weinger, 24, of Round Lake Beach, Ill.; was assigned to the brigade's 1st Battalion, 178th Infantry Regiment. He was killed March 15, 2009 Afghanistan, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Also killed were Sgt. Christopher P. Abeyta and Spc. Normal L. Cain III. Sgt. Harris, 21, of Romeoville, Ill. was assigned to the brigade's 2nd Battalion 122nd Field Artillery when he was killed Sept. 17, 2008 Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. Also killed was 1st Lt. Mohsin A. Naqvi, Capt. Bruce E. Hays and Staff Sgt. Jason A. Vazquez.
