From January through March 2024, University of Illinois Chicago Center for the Recovery and Identification of the Missing (UIC-CRIM), partner of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), conducted excavations of a possible World War II plane crash in an effort to recover U.S. aircrew lost in the Republic of the Philippines. In the photo, Local workers dig and fill soil into buckets to be passed down to the screening station at the bottom of one of the excavated areas at a possible aircraft crash site in the Republic of the Philippines. In this area, incident related materials are found resting within bedrock pockets. The steep slope required the use of ropes and harnesses to keep crews safe, February 15, 2024 (Photographer Ivan Cultura with the National Museum of thePhilippines).
