From January through March 2024, University of Illinois Chicago Center for the Recovery and Identification of the Missing (UIC-CRIM), partner of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), conducted excavations of a possible World War II plane crash in an effort to recover U.S. aircrew lost in the Republic of the Philippines. In the photo, Gregg Abbang (National Museum of the Philippines) oversees excavations at a possible aircraft crash site in the Republic of the Philippines. In this area of the site, incident related materials are found in pockets between the bedrock layers of the ridge-side, February 4, 2024 (Photographer Ben Schaeffer with UIC-CRIM).
