Players from the U.S. Marine Corps All-Rugby team and XV du Pacifique French Army perform a line-out to gain control of the ball during an exhibition match between the All-Marine Rugby Team and the XV du Pacifique French Army team at Powhatan Field, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Va., April 21, 2024. The match was held as part of the annual Norfolk NATO Festival, the longest running festival in the Hampton Roads region, and the only one of its kind in the United States which honors the NATO alliance and its member nations. Rugby diplomacy was announced as part of President Biden’s Pacific Island Forum Summit held last fall, where midshipmen from the USNA Rugby team travel to the Pacific Islands beginning in May for rugby exhibition matches and youth empowerment programming.
