Lt. Gen. Bill Burleson (center) is presented with an Eighth Army flag during his retirement ceremony on Barker Field on Camp Humphreys, South Korea, April 5, 2024. Burleson relinquished command beforehand during a change of command ceremony. Burleson led the U.S. Army’s only field army for the past three-and-a-half years, guiding the command through the COVID pandemic, maintaining its readiness, and strengthening its position in the Korean theater through increased interoperability with the ROK military and modernization.
