    1st Marine Division

Lance Cpl. Matthew Aldrich, a light armored vehicle crewman serving with 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, marches back to formation after receiving the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal here, Jan. 18, 2013. While on leave in his hometown of Gladstone, Ore., Aldrich helped save the life of a civilian who suffered a cardiac arrest. Once he identified the civilian had no pulse and was not breathing, Aldrich cleared the man's airway and immediately began CPR to revive him. Using his combat lifesaving skills, Aldrich took control of the situation and ordered a bystander to call for help. Aldrich directed another bystander to continue CPR until emergency medical technicians arrived. (Official U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. James T. Gulliver)
