Lance Cpl. Matthew Aldrich, a light armored vehicle crewman serving with 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, is awarded a Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal by Lt. Col. Gilbert Juarez, and Sgt. Maj. Donald Burris here, Jan. 18, 2013. While on leave in his hometown of Gladstone, Ore., Aldrich helped save the life of a civilian who suffered a cardiac arrest. Aldrich utilized the combat life saving skills that he had developed in his training and performed CPR on the victim. After the emergency medical technicians arrived, Aldrich passed all pertinent information to the EMT and departed to retrieve a defibrillator. He then gave the defibrillator to the EMT, and contacted 911. Due to his swift communication with the EMT and emergency response team, the victim was quickly transported to the nearest medical facility. (Official U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. James T.
