Lance Cpl. Matthew Aldrich, a light armored vehicle crewman serving with 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, stands proud with his Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal on his chest here, Jan. 18, 2013. Aldrich was awarded the medal for saving a man’s life while he was on leave in Gladstone, Ore. While attending a church event in Lebanon, Ore., two men approached his worship group calling for help. Aldrich followed the men and discovered an unconscious man who was wounded in the head and laying in a puddle of blood. Aldrich found the man had no pulse and was not breathing, so he began CPR and directed others until paramedics arrived. (Official U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. James T. Gulliver)
