Meet Spc. Carlene Tausinga, a transportation management coordinator assigned to the Army Reserve’s 931st Expeditionary TheaterOpening Element based out of Sherman Oaks, Ca. She and her team mobilized to the port of Alexandroupoli to help ensure equipment and vehicles for all the Army units participating in #DefenderEurope 23 are received and accounted for.
“We are a small detachment so there are not a lot of us,” Tausinga said. “We are basically the sister of movement control and transportation.”
Tausinga and her crew have the task of tracking the movement of all U.S. vehicles and equipment that moves into and out of the port.
“Right now we have a new battalion here and we are downloading the ship, documenting and staging for land transportation,” she explained. “ We are tracking every piece of equipment that moves through here and we are doing it all again when it comes time to move to another unit or vessel.”
Though Tausinga and her crew are busy, they still take the opportunity to interact and build relationships with the Hellenic Army assigned to the port and NATO allied and partner forces that are using the port at the same time.
“It’s been great and we are being good ‘battles’ with the Greeks, Italians and everyone that we come across here,” she said.
