Meet Greek Master Sgt. Theo Fakiris. He is assigned to the Hellenic Army’s 12th Mechanised Infantry Division and is one of four personnel who operate the port of Alexandroupoli, Greece, Life Sustainment Area, more commonly called the LSA.
“We provide to all of our allies all that we can.” he said. “We fulfill requests. It is very busy.”
Fakiris and his team gather resources that are stored at the LSA to fulfill the fueling, transportation and facility needs of U.S. and NATO allied and partner forces utilizing the port.
“We have U.S. and Italians here today and we support them both at once,” he explained. “We can operate 24/7. It is a lot of work doing our part. It is tiring but it is great.”
Fakiris said his team has helped support as many as three nation’s military personnel simultaneously to help them discharge their equipment and vehicle from transportation vessels and then line hauling or rail heading the equipment.
He also explained that it may be how well he feels his team operates the LSA, in addition to the strategic location of the port, that keeps U.S. and NATO allies and partners returning.
