Service members assigned to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) render salutes to the remains of U.S. Navy Fire Controlman Second Class Donald Robert McCloud, a missing in action sailor from World War II, during a Chain of Custody ceremony at the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, May 11, 2023. FCM2 McCloud was aboard the USS Oklahoma (BB-37) during the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7th, 1941. He was killed in the attack, and although his remains were initially recovered, they could not be identified at that time. He was initially buried as an unknown at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii. In 2015, advances in forensic techniques prompted the reexamination and eventual identification of FCM2 McCloud’s remains. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Cole Yardley)
