Service members assigned to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) transport the remains of U.S. Army Pfc. Dale Dewayne Thompson, a missing in action soldier from the Korean War, during a ceremony at the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, May 11, 2023 for burial. Pfc. Thompson was reported missing in action on December 2nd, 1950, during a battle with enemy forces near the Chosin Reservoir, North Korea. Following the 2018 summit between former President Donald Trump and North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un, 55 boxes purported to contain the remains of American service members were accessioned into the DPAA laboratory in Hawaii. Using circumstantial and material evidence, scientists were able to identify Pfc. Thompson from these remains. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Cole Yardley)
