Guided missile destroyer USS Ross (DDG 71) prepares to sortie in advance of Hurricane Sandy in Norfolk, Va., Oct. 26, 2012. Navy Adm. Bill Gortney, the commander of U.S. Fleet Forces Command, ordered all Navy ships in the Hampton Roads, Va., area to set Sortie Condition Alpha.
