U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Josh Plocinski, 13th Fighter Squadron fighter pilot, prepares for takeoff in an F-16 Fighting Falcon fitted with new active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar upgrades at Misawa Air Base, Japan, Dec. 5, 2022. The new AESA radar gives pilots better tools to improve awareness and increase reaction times. The 35th Fighter Wing became the first F-16 unit in the Indo-Pacific theater to incorporate the upgraded technology, increasing the wing’s ability to protect, deter and defend in the region and support U.S. allies and partners.
