Deacon Chris D. Romero, a U.S. Navy Veteran, provides some remarks during an unveiling and dedication of a Virginia Historical Marker honoring Filipino Sailors in the U.S. Navy on May 28, 2022. The event occurred at the Philippine Cultural Center of Virginia in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Romero was the first Filipino-American deacon to be ordained in the Catholic Diocese serving at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Virginia Beach, and currently works as a chaplain for hospice patients.
