USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) Conducts Catapult Maintenance

220511-N-DW158-1101 PACIFIC OCEAN (May 10, 2022) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Equipment) Airman Denver Smith from Elmore City, Oklahoma, greases a catapult wire during catapult retraction engine re-reeve maintenance on the flight deck of the U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). Each catapult retraction wire is 1,140 feet long and needs to be properly greased to avoid snags and fraying during daily use. Ronald Reagan, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the United States, and supports alliances, partnerships and collective maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
