Maj. Gen. Darrell J. Guthrie, Task Force McCoy senior commander and commanding general of the 88th Readiness Division, plays a game of catch with Afghan children Sept. 30, 2021, during a walk through of neighborhoods at Fort McCoy, Wis. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of State and Department of Homeland Security, provided transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, during Operation Allies Welcome.
