ATLANTIC OCEAN (April 4, 2022) - U.S. service members, Cabo Verdean maritime forces, and an Interpol intelligence officer depart from aboard the Expeditionary Sea Base USS Hershel "Woody" Williams (ESB 4) to conduct a compliant boarding on a vessel smuggling approximately 6,000 kilograms of contraband during a maritime security patrol, April 1, 2022. The joint U.S. and Cabo Verdean team, with support from the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) and Maritime Analysis and Operations Centre - Narcotics (MAOC-N), interdicted one of the largest trans-oceanic drug shipments. Hershel "Woody" Williams is on a scheduled deployment in the U.S. Sixth Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national interests and security in Europe and Africa.
