Yeoman 3rd Class Walter Drda, from Mercer, Pennsylvania, assigned to USS Gerald R. Ford's (CVN 78) administration department, mans a hose during a phase III crew certification damage control evaluation Jan 26, 2022. Phase III Crew Certification focuses on how the ship’s training teams accomplish necessary crew training needed to return the ship to sea. Ford is in port at Newport News Shipyard executing her Planned Incremental Availability (PIA), a six-month period of modernization, maintenance and repairs.
