211213-N-FA490-2138 APRA HARBOR, Guam – Naval Aircrewman (Helicopter) 1st Class Christopher Fred, from Sarasota, Florida, assigned to the “Wildcards” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 23 swims to a 7 meter rigid-hulled inflatable boat (RHIB) attached to the Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Jackson (LCS 6), during a search and rescue exercise (SAREX). HSC-23 and USS Jackson (LCS 6), part of Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 7, are on a rotational deployment in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operation to enhance interoperability with partners and serve as a ready-response force in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
