U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Jason Epperson, assigned to 425th Brigade Special Troops Battalion (Airborne), Task Force 4-25, is awarded the Purple Heart on Forward Operating Base Salerno, Khost province, Afghanistan, Sept. 12, 2012. Epperson was injured on June 9 when his vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device while on a mounted patrol.
