U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Steven Carbonell, assigned to A Battery, 2nd Battalion, 377th Parachute Field Artillery Regiment, Task Force 4-25, is awarded the Purple Heart on Forward Operating Base Salerno, Khost province, Afghanistan, Sept. 12, 2012. Carbonell was injured on June 1 when a 2,000-pound, vehicle-borne improvised explosive device exploded near his location on FOB Salerno.
