Todd Moore points out construction being done to modernize piers onboard the base to U.S. Representative Joe Courtney (CT-02). A number of older piers on the base, originally built to accommodate diesel-electric submarines built before or during World War II, are part of an extensive pier replacement plan designed to accommodate Virginia-class nuclear-powered submarines.
