Meet Army Sgt. 1st Class Richard Hernandez, a transportation management coordinator assigned to the 627th Movement Control Team. Deployed out of Germany, Hernandez and his team have been working with British and Croatian soldiers to transport more than 300 pieces of military equipment to training areas in Croatia and Bosnia in support of DEFENDER-Europe 21. With more than 15 years of military experience under his belt, “not much surprises me anymore.” Yet, is awed by the professionalism of both armies. While this is his first mission in Croatia working with their military forces, he has worked with the British army before. Their collective mission is to get the cargo to the Soldier as swiftly as possible - a critical job that gives him purpose. “I joined the Army when I was 25, looking for a path. I was a barber and knew I wanted better,” Hernandez said. “I’m still here and I enjoy it.” During his military career, Hernandez has taken on many roles such as a human resource specialist, recruiter, and now transportation and logistics. “I have less than five years and then I plan to retire and spend more time with my Family.” (U.S. Army photo by Sgt.
