A U.S. Naval Research Laboratory echo sounder in preparation to be deployed at sea Feb. 2 in Homer, Alaska. The NRL Scientific Development Squadron (VXS) 1 and Ocean Sciences Division team will deploy two underwater echo sounders and fly over the same area for a test with NRLs new airborne lidar system. The NRL echo sounders are used to measure the acoustic backscatter profiles of bubbles.
