Staff Sgt. Howard Roper, a cavalry scout with 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry Regiment, Iowa Army National Guard, assigned to Regional Command-East, Kosovo Force, reads his compass during a patrol along the administrative boundary line Feb. 12, 2021. The Soldiers conducted route reconnaissance during the patrol. The reconnaissance consisted of finding the slope percentage and degree of the curve along the pathways.
