The image shows the deck of the USS America (likely LHA-6, a US Navy amphibious assault ship) with a tandem-rotor helicopter visible in flight off the port side. The helicopter displays Japanese military markings, specifically a red hinomaru (rising sun circle) insignia, identifying it as a Japan Ground Self-Defense Force CH-47 Chinook. This appears to be a joint military exercise or interoperability operation between US and Japanese forces at sea.
