The city’s contractor used a cement-bentonite mix on this section at the Hampton Pump Station outfall along the Trinity River in Dallas. The mix gives it the gray color in the photo. The contractor will later add a concrete cap covering the outfall cut. The city of Dallas is working to certify that the levees can safely pass a severe storm that has a 1:100 chance of happening in any given year. The wall will help the city meet requirements of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which is in the process of re-mapping the 100-year flood plain for its National Flood Insurance Program. The Fort Worth District’s role is to monitor this Section 408 project to ensure the federal Dallas Floodway System performs its life safety role as designed.
