Jessica Lieland, officer in charge of Regional Medical Strike Team (RMST) 17, California National Guard, inputs patient information Jan. 8, 2021 at Westview Healthcare Center in Auburn, California. Lieland’s group is one of multiple RMSTs Cal Guard activated to help California medical facilities that are burdened with COVID-19 cases. “We all have been hit hard by COVID-19,” Lieland said. “We all know somebody, whether it’s family members, friends, or friends of family members that have been affected by it.
