Two individuals in military camouflage uniforms are crouched in an open field near a treeline, appearing to operate or set up equipment on a tripod. The setting appears to be a training area with mixed terrain including sparse grass, white gravel patches, and dense subtropical vegetation. The image is taken from a low angle with foreground vegetation partially obscuring the subjects.

    31st Marine Expeditionary Unit

U.S. Marines with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) set up a VULOS Antenna during a communications exercise (COMMEX) in the Central Training Area, Okinawa, Japan, Nov. 22, 2020. COMMEX is a pre-deployment exercise to ensure the unit is able to push out from the main body to set up communications and enable communication capabilities through field expedience. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premiere crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
