A CV-22 Osprey prepares to take off at Combined Arms Training Center Camp Fuji, Japan, following a combat search and rescue exercise during Keen Sword on Oct. 29, 2020. Keen Sword is a joint, bilateral, biennial field-training exercise involving U.S. military and Japan Self-Defense Force personnel, designed to increase combat readiness and interoperability of the Japan-U.S. alliance. The U.S.-Japan mutual security treaty is a symbol of the U.S. commitment to Japan and the region and allows the United States to provide forward-deployed forces that can rapidly react to counter aggression against Japan and other regional allies and partners.
