    182nd Airlift Wing

    U.S. Air Force Col. Daniel McDonough, the commander of the 182nd Airlift Wing, Illinois Air National Guard, returns the Distinguished Flying Cross medal to Richard Ward II during a ceremony honoring his father in Peoria, Ill., Aug. 27, 2020. Richard and his sister, Ann J. Ward, are the children of Capt. Richard Ward, an F-84D Thunderstreak pilot who died in an on-base aircraft accident during the June 1959 drill weekend. Ward’s Distinguished Flying Cross earned during the Korean War was bestowed to them by extended family during the ceremony after having been lost for 61 years. (U.S. Air National Guard photo by Tech.
