Maj. William S. Whitman stands in front of a portrait of his grandfather, Col. Walter M. Whitman, inside of the Col. Walter M. Whitman Regimental Library at the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, headquarters building July 19. Col. Whitman was the first commander of the 325th Regiment during WWI until the unit was demobilized on May 18, 1919. Maj. Whitman is an Army reservist for the Judge Advocate General's Corps assigned to the United States Forces Command. He is a native of Prattville, Ala.
